Background    

Avanti is a world leader in satellite data communications. Major organisations are now using Avanti’s networks for cellular backhaul, IP trunking, complex government and enterprise networks and video services, as well as broadband.

The Business Support Systems (BSS) team develops and supports the core business applications for Avanti including Salesforce, SharePoint, SAP, and others – allowing the business to achieve maximum value and efficiencies from the software.

The BSS Application Engineer will be primarily responsible for the development and customisation of Salesforce.  They will also have the opportunity to work with other Enterprise Applications such as SharePoint. The role encompasses the entire software development lifecycle of requirements capture, solution design, development, implementation and support.

Main duties and responsibilities

The BSS Application Engineer’s primary objectives are to:

  • Enable business stakeholders to get the maximum value from Salesforce (and SharePoint) by customising the applications to meet business needs
  • Provide a quality 2nd line support service
  • Work with stakeholders across the business to capture and document requirements and business needs
  • Convert business requirements into solution designs and technical specifications
  • Customise the business applications to meet business requirements (including objects, page layouts, profiles, dashboards, reports, validation rules, workflows, etc.)
  • Effectively test process and system changes
  • Identify process or data quality issues, analyse causes and work with the business to make improvements
  • As the subject matter expert, consistently seek ways to improve the business applications in order to better meet the needs of the business
  • Prepare training materials and deliver training
  • Share skills and knowledge within the department
  • Provide quality 2nd line support and administration of the BSS applications (including user management, data management, backups and security)
  • Ensure compliance with industry, security and best practice standards including ISO27001, ISO9001, GDPR, ITIL

 

Minimum Skills Required      

  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in the administration and development of Salesforce
  • Demonstrable expertise in configuring, customising and extending Salesforce (including objects, page layouts, profiles, dashboards, reports, validation rules, workflows, etc.) and using Apex Code, VisualForce pages, APIs & Triggers
  • Good working knowledge of databases and SQL
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the entire software development life cycle
  • Demonstrable experience in testing changes and coordinating UAT
  • Knowledge of Sales and Marketing processes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Able to present information in a clear and relevant way for the intended audience
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and requirements capture sessions
  • Experience of providing internal training
  • Strong skills in Word and Excel
  • Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Disciplined, excellent time management skills, organised and self-motivated
  • Ability and willingness to work occasionally long hours under pressure
  • Ability to travel to other UK sites and internationally if required

 

Ideal Skills Required

  • Salesforce Certified Administrator or Salesforce Certified Advanced Administrator
  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I
  • Experience of working in/with Sales and Marketing
  • Practical experience of integrating systems to create a seamless end-to-end solution (Enterprise Application Integration)
  • A background in telco or related industry would be advantageous
  • Familiarity with quality, security, and risk management practices including relevant ISO standards
  • An understanding of ITIL, or equivalent, and its relationship with other best practices
  • Project Management qualification and experience of managing small projects

  • Remuneration will be related to skills and experience
  • Service is delivered throughout the HYLAS fleet footprint and occasional international travel is required
