At Avanti, we strive to constantly innovate and leverage our satellite technology to empower people, strengthen communities and give back to the regions we work. From educating over 300,000 children in Africa to delivering connectivity to refugee camps, we provide vital connectivity when and where it is needed most.
Supporting the Global Goals
Our ‘Be More’ mantra runs through our DNA and we fully support the United Nations Global Goals by taking a stand and doing our part to make a difference.
Sitting alongside names such as Coca-Cola, Diageo, Google, Mastercard, Microsoft and more, Avanti is one of the 17 Business Avengers who have joined forces to help achieve the Goals by 2030. Avanti is responsible Quality Education – in reflection of our wider commitment to improve education across Africa.
Improving educational outcomes maths and literacy of children in Kenya
Since 2014, Avanti has been leading iMlango project, a first of its kind online education programme for rural and remote schools across Kenya. Working along with our partners, DFiD, sQuid, Whizz Education and Camara Education, we have developed an adaptive, personalised learning platform delivered through high-speed internet connectivity. Today we reach over 180,000 children over 245 primary and secondary schools in Kenya.
iMlango has a direct impact on teachers who are able to access new content and deliver their lessons in a far more interactive way.
Bringing teachers to the digital world in Tanzania
Since 2016, iKnowledge, another project led by Avanti, has been bringing broadband connectivity to schools, providing digital skills training for teachers and e-learning tools that they can use with their students. iKnowledge has greatly improved the quality of teaching by giving online access to educational resources.
I want to congratulate Avanti for providing internet access to our school. It helps teachers to search for teaching and learning materials easily. It also helps students to search for more notes for their assignments.

Working together to improve disaster recovery responses
Working with the Ministry of Interior and Red Cross Society in Kenya, Avanti and its partners are undertaking a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programme, which uses satellite technology to improve Kenyan capacity to plan for and respond to disasters effectively.
Avanti’s satellite systems provide a secure, resilient, always-on infrastructure in disaster situations – providing critical tools for emergency communications and situation assessment. The project supports the development of Kenyan Agencies and Responders by enhancing coordination, command and control of disaster response at local, regional and national level.
Avanti is also supporting disasters recovery using their steerable beams capacity. We were able to move one of our beams over Mozambique to provide vital connectivity for rescuers when Cyclone Idai hit the country in March 2019.
Collaborating with UNHCR to bring connectivity to refugee camps
We are proud to collaborate with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to bring connectivity to refugee settlements in Uganda. We have committed to provide solar powered satellite broadband connectivity to seven sites in refugee settlements, including two in Bidi Bidi, one of the largest in the world.
We will be connecting UNHCR Protection Units, technology centres and community centres, providing refugees and host communities with access to information, humanitarian and livelihood services.
