Leading the way with our pioneering satellite fleet

In 2010, our first satellite HYLAS 1 launched, making Avanti the first British company to launch a Ka-band satellite and the first satellite operator to provide Ka-band services across the UK and Europe.

HYLAS 2, launched in 2012, extended our services across the UK and Europe as well as making us the first to offer Ka-band services in the Middle East and East and Southern Africa.

In April 2018, we launched our most ambitious satellite to date, HYLAS 4. The satellite offers the very latest in Ka-band technology and doubles our capacity over EMEA. With 64 spot beams, HYLAS 4 completes Avanti’s Sub-Saharan coverage, as well as an innovative design that incorporates four steerable beams that can be steered to address additional markets across the globe.

In Q2 of 2019, we welcome our latest satellite to the fleet, HYLAS 3. The Ka-band satellite was constructed under a joint venture with the European Space Agency and has 8 beams within one cluster on board and is able to connect any base station with visibility of its 31ºE orbital position.

HYLAS 4

HYLAS 4, the newest addition to our satellite fleet, launched on the 5th April 2018.

It has 64 fixed spot beams and uses the latest Ka-band satellite technology to extend our coverage to West and Central Africa, completing our Sub-Saharan Africa coverage.

The satellite also gives us additional capacity over existing regions across Africa and Europe.

HYLAS 4 was specially designed to include four independent steerable beams which can provide highly flexible capacity services across the globe.

HYLAS1

HYLAS 1

HYLAS 1 was Avanti’s first satellite, which launched in 2010. The satellite uses the latest Ka-band technology to deliver high speed, reliable and secure communications across Europe.

The spacecraft has a unique and flexible payload which enables Avanti to change the bandwidth of its eight Ka-band beams whilst in orbit, maximising the satellite’s efficiency.

HYLAS 1 is also complemented by a Ku-band broadcast capability with fibre enhanced coverage.
